A social media influencer is someone who wields a great amount of influence through different social media platforms. The form of influence can vary and no two influencers are the same. In the past, celebrity endorsements used to be the form of influencer marketing, but in the digital age of social media connections, regular people have become online “celebrities” with powerful social media followings, especially in specific market segments.
For those of you out there who are aspiring to be social media influencers, here are some tips that we have gathered to help you improve your social media outreach and influence 🙂
- Be an expert in your industry
The good thing about social media influence is that people choose to listen to what you have to say, and it is not forced upon them (like what tends to happen on traditional media). If you want to grow your influence, you will have to nurture your followers.
Note that social media influence is not a one-time wonder. In fact, it is a long process that requires time, patience and passion. One of the best ways to foster a good connection with your followers is by establishing yourself as an expert in your industry. You do not need to be a professional at what you are doing, but being very aware of what you recommend or talk about on a regular basis helps you garner trust from the right audience. Find topics that resonate with what you do and create content based on them. After all, potential customers are more likely to be more receptive to recommendations from a person that they respect, rather than from a paid informative advertisement.

If you think you can contribute to a topic, do it. Be aware of what’s new and happening in your industry and have conversations with your followers, or other influencers about it. We know of many readers who keep up with social media influencers to receive updates on what are the latest products in the industry, and updating them on what’s new will always keep your readers informed and excited to read on.
- Hold giveaways & contests
Giveaways are one of the best ways to engage your readers to stay tuned to your content, and attract new readers to your page too. Around the internet, it has become increasingly common for influencers & bloggers to hold loop giveaways, which means that a group of influencers pool their money and offer a prize, and then post the same giveaway image on their social media platforms at the same time. This way, all of you will be able to gain from each other’s following count as well!
