Take #OOTDs like a Pro!

   Category: Contest |

Those four letters…pretty sure we’ve heard or used it countless number of times but what exactly makes a good OOTD shot? Well, everyone has their own style of dressing, own signature pose and now some even have their own favourite wall as backdrop!

Perfecting your OOTD shot requires skills and here are some tips on how you can achieve that:

1. Don’t be a wallflower

Wallflowerunless that’s the direction you’re going for

Otherwise, take note of the colours of your own outfit and the background you’re posing against and make sure they complement well. If you’re dressed in complicated colours and patterns, a neutral-coloured wall or backdrop would do just fine.

2. Avoid distractions

Remember that YOU should be the main focus, not the clutter in the background or the people surrounding you.

3. Strike a pose

Instead of the typical “hands on hips, smiles on lips”, take some pointers from our influencers!

Budget Beauty: Make your own Face Mask!

   Category: Uncategorized |

While it’s true when they say you are what you eat, it’s also true how certain foods, when used appropriately, can have a positive effect on your skin. We’re talking about making your own face mask out of ingredients you can find in your kitchen! And although Mother’s Day is over, our appreciation for our mums isn’t limited to just that day itself. Why not pamper her and spend some quality time with your mum with these simple food masks.

1. Moisturizing

Avocado2Credit: Ashley Neese

Did you know avocados make great moisturizers without clogging your pores?

What you’ll need?
½ avocado (soft)
1 tsp honey
2 tbs hot water

Dissolve 1 tsp of honey into 2 tbs of hot water, mix it together with 1/2 a mashed avocado and leave it on your face for 10 minutes before rinsing off. Dry skin no more! While you’re at it, why not prepare some guacamole and taco chips too!

BananaCredit: @missgoob

You could also use bananas which are rich in minerals, vitamins (Vitamin E, C, B, A) and have natural hydrating properties.

What you’ll need?
1 medium-sized ripe banana
¼ cup plain yoghurt
2 tbs honey

For softer skin, mash a ripe banana into a smooth paste and apply it on your face for 10-20 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water followed by cold water. Another popular recipe would be to mix ¼ cup of plain yoghurt, 2 tbs honey, and 1 medium-sized mashed banana. See which works best for you!

2. Brightening

Not only used for curries, turmeric powder helps achieve glowy, brighter-looking skin and contains anti-inflammatory, anti-septic, antibacterial, and anti-aging properties too!

What you’ll need?
¼ tsp turmeric powder
2 tsp yoghurt
1 tsp olive oil
1 tsp honey

Mix 2 tsp of yoghurt, 1 tsp of olive oil, 1 tsp of honey, ¼ tsp of turmeric powder and apply on face for 10-15min before washing off. Use turmeric powder moderately, you don’t want your skin to be stained!

Tomatoes make a good alternative as it contains natural bleaching and lightening properties.

What you’ll need?
1 tsp of tomato paste
2 tsp of yoghurt

The mixture of 1 tsp of tomato paste and 2 tsp of yoghurt helps remove dead skin cells, lighten old acne scars and even out your skintone, giving you more radiant-looking skin!

3. Oil-control/Pore-tightening
Pure tomato juice also acts as an astringent and helps reduce the size of those unsightly large pores. Leave it on your face for 20-30 minutes and voila! Size of pores significantly reduced!

You could also try this method of beating an egg white to a frothy finish and applying it on your face. Not only does it shrink pores, it helps balance oil control, achieve firmer skin, and fade scars over time.

4. Acne

HoneySay no to those pesky zits with honey! For acne-prone skin, apply raw honey on face for 10-30 minutes. As honey contains antibacterial properties, it helps reduce breakouts and prevent new pimples from popping up. It also gently removes dirt and impurities while retaining the skin’s natural oils.

Figured which mask is for you? Go on, grab the ingredients from your kitchen and get started! Don’t forget to also…

Mask away Churpers! Make mummy happy and let’s work towards fresher, more youthful-looking skin, the natural way!

#FeatureFriday – FAYEL LAU: THE FASHIONISTA ON-THE-GO

   Category: Alpha, Feature Friday |

You might have seen her around on TV, ads and even heard her over the radio several years ago, today we dig a little deeper into her life and catch up with our Alpha, Fayel, on the latest projects she’s been working on while juggling her career as a financial consultant. Well in case you’re wondering “Fayel who?” Just to clarify, Fayel was previously known as Constance.
Oh, and the “L” in her name is silent!

Feature Friday - Fayel Lau

1. First things first, why the name change?

No reason in particular, I just felt that it was time for a change.

2. How was it like starring alongside other local talents in Singapore telemovie “Sunrise” earlier this year! Any upcoming shows that we should look out for?

It was very interesting and a good experience as everyone was talented in their own ways! Working with the talents and crew of sunrise was a joy as they are a very fun bunch to be around with. You can look out for my Pizza Hut commercial!

3. You’ve done plenty of modeling and hosting gigs, and was one of Female’s 50 Gorgeous People in 2013, what got you into the media scene? How did it all start?

It all started after I was part of The New Paper New Face back in 2008 and then I went on to join Singtel Grid Girls on Tour in 2009. Later that year, I was offered a hosting gig on 987FM’s request and dedication show, Say It with Music. I feel very blessed to be given these opportunities.

4. What’s the latest social app you’ve been using?

Well maybe Snapchat occasionally!

5. Acting, modeling and hosting, pick one! And why?

It’s tough to pick between Modeling and Acting, because both requires you to act. What I love about it is the challenge of portraying different characters as well as entertaining my audience.

6. You seem to be an avid traveler. Where do you wish to be at this moment!

At this moment, I wish to be in Croatia!

7. With such a busy schedule, any beauty tips to share on how you maintain healthy, glowing skin?

Always cleanse your face thoroughly at the end of the day.

8. When you’re not working, how do you spend your free time?

Well generally most of my time is spent going for shoots and meeting clients but when I do get some free time, I like to spend it with my friends and family as well as catch up on TV Series.

9. What’s your dream job?

My dream job is to be a veterinarian.

10. Mother’s Day is coming up! Feel free to give a special shout-out to your mum here! What’s your relationship with your mum like?

We share a very close relationship. I enjoy spending most of my weekends baking with my mother. It is a great way for us to bond and get our creative juices flowing.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY MUMMY! I LOVE YOU!!!

This spirited young lady is usually out and about, peek into her life and keep up with Fayel on her Instagram, Twitter, and blog!

Have a good weekend ahead, Churpers! Till next time!
