#Feature Friday – #Girlboss and Fashionista, Samantha

   Category: Uncategorized | No comments

It’s the end of October and as we gear up for the last two months of the year, remember to pause and reflect on what can be done better. This month, we commemorated World Animal Day and featured our Alphas’ cuddly fur friends on Dayre! Be sure to check that out if you’re an animal lover. It is also the month of Digital Fashion Week so stay tuned to what we have to share. But before that, here’s our Featured Alpha of the month!

October’s Feature Friday is none other than Samantha – whom many may know as Societyofsnobs! Read on to find out all about Samantha, she’s more than meets the eye.

  1. Hey Samantha! Hope October has been great so far J Your well-curated feed’s so lovely. Share with us some of your favourite photo editing apps you use!

Hello and thank you! I spend a lot of time on styling and shooting my pictures with a DSLR camera. They don’t turn out the way you see on social media unless I process them through Snapseed, VSCO, and ColorStory.

My favourite function from each app is selective saturation, S2 filter (for a clean look), and lens flare respectively. I’m still trying to master photography so that I don’t have to rely on such functions.

2. Travelling can be very stressful for the skin. What beauty tips or hacks do you have to combat that?

My top recommendation would be to take oral sunblock instead of applying sunscreen. With sunscreen, you have to constantly reapply to get protected from UV rays, are usually greasy, and makes you feel uncomfortable. Oral sunblock protects your entire body from harmful UV rays with just 2 tablets in the morning.

In addition, I recommend bringing makeup remover wipes and hair oil capsules instead of your usual makeup remover oil/cream and bulky bottled hair oil to reap the same benefits without the extra hassle.

3. Online or in stores – where do you normally shop for your clothes and accessories?

I’ve stopped shopping for apparels, shoes, and accessories at physical stores since I prefer to shop online! I love ZALORA and ASOS as there are always huge discounts and free returns. If I’m unsure of the size, I would order 2 sizes and decide which to keep once I’ve tried them on. My favourite brands such as MISSGUIDED are only available online so I’d much rather shop online!

4. What is your best buy this year in terms of fashion and your favourite fashion trend!

My best fashion buy this year is my almost brand new Celine Luggage Tote that I got from a friend at only $1K! Such a steal – she needed money urgently and I thought that I NEEDED the bag. I’m always a sucker for roomy bags. This tote can fit my DSLR camera, extra pair of shoes, outerwear, water bottle, and brolly.

I just have to exclaim that I love the satin trend! From shirts that are pajamas-inspired to slinky dresses to bomber jackets, they exude luxurious vibe and are the most comfortable and lightweight thing that you can wear. I especially love them in blush and champagne tones.

5. Has studying psychology change your perception or shaped you into who you are?

As psychology is all about human behaviour and mind, I believe that it has helped me become more aware of other people’s situations as well as look beyond the surface to understand their problems and empathize with them. I have learnt to control my emotions better and to avoid committing cognitive biases that might pose as a hindrance to my work and lifestyle.

6. Many people know you as Societyofsnobs on social media, but not many know that you are also a director of a construction firm. Share with us what you do at work :)

It’s not common knowledge but yes, I am the director of my construction firm, Hock Chuan Seng Pte Ltd. We distribute building materials and hardware. The business was handed over to my grandfather to my father, and my father to me. I do everything including attending to the cash register and arranging delivery, as well as heavier duties such as contributing to my employees’ CPF and applying for my compound to be leased out.

7. How has being a director challenged and helped you grow as a person?

I became a more responsible and driven individual as I felt the need to expand my business to ensure that I can pay my employees enough. Previously, I was contented to only understand procedures and learn skills that were relevant to me – now, I realized that it is better to try out everything in case these experiences come in handy next time.

8. Tell us what your ideal weekend is like!

My ideal weekend involves a short getaway to a nearby island for scuba diving. Since I’ve recently gotten my Advanced Open Water Diver Course, I anticipate more time to take footages of marine life and wrecks during my leisure dives using my GoPro. Meanwhile, I have an upcoming diving trip at the Open Ocean habitat of S.E.A. Aquarium that would allow me to view giant manta rays and leopard sharks up close. Can’t wait!

9. As a content creator, do you ever feel stuck doing what you do? How do you ensure that you are consistent with updating your social media platforms?

I never had a problem with bringing new content to my social platforms since there are always new fashion trends, beauty products, picture-worthy cafes, and events to attend. The only problem that I sometimes encounter is drafting beauty and technology-related posts since they require more research. Despite my busy schedule (I go to the office every Monday to Saturday, full day), I allocate time on Sundays to shoot pictures of my outfits and beauty hauls. Sometimes, I might even bring 2 outfits out to ensure I have enough images to last the upcoming week.

10. Lastly, it’s Halloween this month! What are some plans you have this year?

I don’t usually party during Halloween since my friends prefer to take it chill. We are going for Halloween Horror Nights 6 though – I attend it every year because it’s so much fun! Have been trying to scare the actors instead but I haven’t been able to. Guess they are really well-trained.

Thanks Samantha for such an insight into your life! We hope that you continue to be able to challenge and push yourself – whether at work being a #girlboss or creating such inspiring feed. To keep up with Samantha, check out her social media platform and her Dayre!

It’s a wrap; the third quarter of 2016!

   Category: Alpha | No comments

In a blink of an eye, we are down to the last three months of 2016! Our Alphas definitely had a really busy yet fun-filled third quarter of 2016 with many exciting activities and happenings. Without further ado, lets dive straight into it 😉

1. A food-filled celebration with VivoCity!
We celebrated VivoCity’s 10th Anniversary through a way we love best — EATING! Together with 8 Days, our Alphas, Jovelle, Shufeng, Melina, Jie Hui, Charlotte, Cheyenne, Jucia and Brenda explored yummy food at ten restaurants including Jamie’s Italian, The Chop House and The Dancing Crab.

Everyone ended the day with happy bellies & happy faces, and enjoyed a great afternoon bonding with friends over food :)

img_4025Congrats to our Alphas, Jie Hui, Brenda & Cheyenne who won food vouchers for having the best pictures & reviews. How great is it to be rewarded with even more food after all that eating!

2. Nuffnang ChurpChurp goes to Japan with ABC Cooking Studio

Jie Hui also embarked on a media trip organized by ABC Cooking Studio to Japan along with other Nuffnang Bloggeratis, Mongchin, Juli and Yina. The girls did many activities together to learn more about the Japanese culture through food; such as berry picking and a cookout session at ABC Cooking Studio itself where they made yummy makis and teriyaki chicken!

dayre-4We are glad Jie Hui thoroughly enjoyed her trip to Japan, you can read about what went down on her Dayre posts.

3. Celebrating 51 years of nation pride, Singapore!
Netccentric partnered with National Day Parade (NDP) 2016 once again so we got the opportunity to receive first dibs on the year’s NDP and attend the preview shows as well! Everyone enjoyed the show at the revamped National Stadium. Definitely memorable to be back!

dayre-5Our Alpha, Melina, looking good amidst the huge stadium!

dayre-6A heartwarming experience, made better with fellow talents turned friends! Of course, the highly anticipated NDP goodie bag did not disappoint. Here’s Brenda and Jie Hui donning this year’s bag in style!

4. Netccentric turned 10! #welivesocial, do you?
Apart from our nation’s birthday, we also celebrated our 10th anniversary! It was a night of fun, looking back at Netccentric’s achievements while aiming for many more milestones as a family.

It was also a night where our Churp Churp Alphas got together to catch up and to know one another better! An enjoyable evening for everyone, staff and talents alike :)

Head on over to NuffnangSG & ChurpSG’s Dayre for more on what went on that night!

To another 10 glorious years!

5. Bare Your Sole 2016
Bare Your Soul is a charity walk where participants have to cover a distance BAREFOOTED! We are honored to be part of this year’s walk once again.

dayre-10It was a meaningful experience, where we walked over different terrains – grass, mud and even stone trails without our shoes to protect us – something that we usually take for granted.

Together with our Nuffnang Bloggeratis, Valerie and Kelvin, we managed to complete the 2.5km walk! It was pretty challenging but made more fun with one another.

Our dear cheeky monkeys did really well for the walk! 😉

6. Keep up with the stylish Jocina!
We spy with our little eye Jocina in Style Files by Reebonz! Have a read at how her personality matches the pantone colour – airy blue, more over at http://bit.ly/jocinaxreebonz :)

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset

7. Alpha updates!dayre-13Our heartiest congratulations to Tiq for her union and celebration of #zultiqwedding! It was a beautiful wedding and we are so elated for Tiq to have found her happily ever after.

dayre-14Amanda also announced her pregnancy and we can’t wait for the arrival of her baby boy! Congratulations to our hot mama, looking really radiant and still as gorgeous as ever :)

dayre-15Last but definitely not least, we have a new bundle of joy in Cindy’s (@cindypau) family, Edith. We wish Cindy and her family all the best; we know she will make a wonderful mommy!

8. Welcome to the Churp Churp family!
We are glad to present our two new additions to the family, Cheyenne  and Gayle!

Our youngest Alpha in Churp Churp, Cheyenne is fun, sporty and ever so gorgeous! While studying, she also does part-time modelling and enjoys hanging out with her friends. Follow her at @cheyennechesney (on her social media platforms) and we look forward to seeing her achieve greater things in life!

An actress and musician at heart, Gayle is a resident actress in the Channel 5 series, Tanglin. She channels her passion for music in music videos filmed both locally and overseas. Don’t let her mysterious façade throw you off! A joyful and personable girl, we anticipate the exciting projects that she will be embarking on.

That’s all we have for now! We’re only a few months away to 2017, let’s make our time count before a new year begins :) In the meantime, follow us on Dayre to get weekly updates from us.

See ya next time!

Feature Friday: Cëe the world with our flatlay queen, Cëe Tay!

Category: Alpha, Feature Friday, Singapore, Social Media Scene, Travel | No comments

We hope August was an awesome month for all you Churpers :)

On our end, August was jam-packed with the celebrations of both our nation and … Netccentric’s 10th Anniversary! (whoop whoop!) Not just for us it seems as, Cëe, our featured Alpha of the month, recently returned from a 3-months long vacation and celebrated her 22nd birthday back in Singapore.

Now that half of September is done and dusted, let’s check in with Cëe on what she has been up to!

1.Hi Cëe, welcome home! How was your recent trip to New York? What did you enjoy most about the city that never sleeps?

Thank you! This city really never sleeps. I love NYC (but San Francisco takes first place) because food is everywhere! No surprises there. Most places are within walking distance, almost like Singapore, which makes it very convenient.

As a tourist, I would recommend trying Shake Shack. If you’re looking for something more Instagrammable, they have plenty of cafes for you to explore. Certain street food or food trucks can be expensive, so just be aware of that.

My favourite spot in Manhattan would be The High Line – it’s an elevated park built on a historic rail line. It may be a bit out of the way but you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the cool breeze and sun set.

Also since you’re in New York, I suggest taking a trip down to the 9/11 memorial. There are 2 large fountains that take the spot of where the twin towers used to be (I think) and they also have a museum. I believe it’s a great learning experience for everyone.

2.Aside from New York, what are some of your favourite cities that you have travelled to recently & why?

San Francisco, Melbourne and Hong Kong (planning another trip in Jan).

I don’t know why, but I’m just so drawn to San Francisco. It was a place I’ve always wanted to visit and after spending 2 months there, I think I left my heart in San Francisco. Maybe it’s the people, or the landscape or the chilly weather… I would do anything to be back again!

While I didn’t spend much time in Melbourne, I was able to visit quite a number of places thanks to a friend who lives there. They have so many Instagram-worthy streets and cafes that it’s not difficult to see why I love this city. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and would definitely love to revisit and have a longer stay this time.

Hong Kong is just a glutton’s heaven. The last time I visited, I was there for over a week and it seemed like I still had so much to do and so many places to visit. Can’t wait to start planning the upcoming trip!

3.What tips do you have for budding videographers who may not be familiar with doing travelogues?

  1. Record everything! It’s better to have more footage to work with than none. What I’ve learnt during my stint as a videographer is to keep each recording short, so it’s a lot easier when editing. Rather than watching through a 10 minutes recording to find the ‘good parts’, you can easily scrub through a 1 minute recording.
  2. You don’t need a professional camera to have a ‘good’ travel vlog, there are times when I chose to record with my iPhone 6s and the quality is pretty decent.
  3. Watch someone else’s travelogue to get inspired.

While I did say to record everything above, there are times when it’s much better to be present in the moment and enjoy the view with your own eyes. Most importantly, the main reason we travel is to expand our knowledge and to relax. So enjoy yourself on the trip and the process of capturing all those moments!

4.Ok enough of travels, let’s get to know the person behind @ardaisy_! How would you describe yourself?

Hmm, I love a good adventure, I probably joke too much and am organised most of the time.

5.Congrats on your graduation! What are your plans for the future?

Thank you! My plans for the future are to find a partner and settle down within the next year. Just kidding! I am currently looking for a full-time job most probably doing digital marketing, and see how it goes from there. 😊

6.Well, one thing we do know for sure is your love for flat lays! What are your favourite props to use/have when creating a flat lay?

I don’t have any favourite props actually since most of my props are also object that I use on a daily basis. I do however have some notebooks/books which were impulse purchases but turned out to be really great props as I don’t use them at all.

Oh wait! Flowers can make great room decoration as well as props.

7.Where do you draw your flat lay inspirations from and what do you do when your inspirations’ lacking?

My daily life I suppose. Most of my flat lays are created to represent a day, rather than intentionally created just for the sake of posting. Of course there are times when I get a new shoe or bag that I really want to feature, then I create a flat lay around those items.

When my inspiration’s running low, I use Pinterest! I can spend all afternoon pinning, even when I have other important things to do. (oops!)

8.Your two guinea pigs are so adorable! What did you name them after? How has your life changed after being a mama to your two fur kids?

Hehe, thanks! The older one is named Dale, and the younger one is Baby. They are approximately 3 years old and 1 years old respectively.

To be honest, I’m not even sure how life was like before having my guinea pigs (says every pet owner). I missed them so much when I was away for 2 months.

9.Even though you’ve graduated, it’s back to school season for many! What recipes do you have to share for a quick and easy yet healthy breakfast?

  1. Overnight oats

I love overnight oats because as the name suggests, you prepare it the night before so you don’t have to rush in the morning. Fill your mason jar with oats, yoghurt and some fruits and leave it in the fridge overnight. I don’t add honey or sugar, because the natural sweetness from the fruits is enough for me.

2. Fruit Salad

Don’t let the word salad scare you. I’m not someone who loves eating vegetables as well, but adding your favourite fruits into the salad makes it a lot better.

  1. Infused water

Fill your bottle with fruits/vegetables (I like the cucumber and mint leaves combination the most). I usually also prepare this overnight, leave it in the fridge and drink it first thing when I wake up!

10.Lastly, as Netccentric just turned 10, what are some wishes you have for the company?

Happy 10th birthday Netccentric! The party was amazing and I’m glad to be part of this wonderful family. To more success ahead!

All of us can agree that doing up a flatlay is definitely not an easy feat, it’s an art form! We hope you’re as inspired as we are right now and for more tips and tricks on flatlays and Cëe’s travel adventures, follow her on her blog and her social media platforms!

Once again, have a blast this F1 weekend, Churpers :)

6 things you NEED to know about Influencer Marketing

Happy Tuesday! It’s been incredibly interesting reading all of your #WeLiveSocial stories on Dayre for the past weeks ☺ Though submissions for the best social media stories have ended, you could still share your story just for the fun of it and join us in the hashtag! While we were all writing on our social media stories, you probably thought about how much social media has changed over the past 10 years. Social media not only impacted our personal lives, it has also changed the way brands reach out to us. Though traditional marketing like newspaper and television advertisements are still widely popular, influencer marketing, on the other hand, has reached its peak in recent years. If you’re still unsure on what influencer marketing is all about… you need to get out of the rock you’re living under!

But it’s still not too late as we’re here to share with you the 6 things you need to know about influencer marketing to survive in this time and age. So, here goes!

1.The evolution of influencer marketing

Since 2011, influencer marketing spiraled into what we now deem as mainstream advertising. Ever since the rise of social media marketing in recent years, statistics have shown that the adoption of social media all around the world has skyrocketed and it’s no wonder that a couple of interesting personalities started to sprout and shine on these platforms we use regularly and from there, garner a good amount of following.

2.So what exactly is influencer marketing?

“It identifies the individuals that have influence over potential buyers, and orients marketing activities around these influencers.”  – Wikipedia

Who are your favourite influencers? Could you name a few online personalities that you resonate well with or look up to? Perhaps it could be that you admire their #ootds and follow them to gain fashion inspirations or it could be that you love the way they curate their feed with perfectly done up flatlays or seek their opinions on the latest beauty products.

So how do brands come into play? Brands are able to share their new launch by approaching these personalities you follow online to get them to talk about the products in their perspective! You are then introduced to the brand from someone that you admire and trust, and thus, feel more compelled to purchase it. Slowly, as the popularity of these personalities rises, so do their influence and that’s how the term “influencers” came about.

Want to know who some of our favourite influential people are? Read all about it on our Dayre!

3.Influencer marketing vs Traditional marketing

Now the challenge is… with all the various marketing solutions available, which marketing strategy is most suitable for a brand and gets the most ROI (Return of Investment)?

Influencer Marketing is a form of inbound marketing! If you ever feel like the ads nowadays are IN YOUR FACE… yup you’re right. Wherever you go, advertisements are everywhere and on the social media platforms you use.

Most importantly, partly why influencer marketing works is because:

– The right influencer endorses the brand

Brands don’t engage just any popular influencer with a high following. They look beyond the numbers. They look at their engagement rates by taking into consideration how many comments and likes the influencer gets, ensuring that their popularity is not bought.

– They know the audience they want to reach out to

By selecting an influencer with a specific type of followers, you know you’re getting your message across to the right people with the highest possibility of converting to sales!

– It’s more authentic than an ad

People trust people more than a beautifully curated advertisement that’s endorsed by celebrities who are paid thousands of dollars.

4.How to differentiate an ad with an honest review

But when brands pay influencers to talk about their products, isn’t it also an advertisement? Technically… it is. There are cases whereby the ad is sooo apparent that the influencer loses the trust of his/her followers. But those are extreme cases, most influencers stand by their principle of only endorsing a product or brand that they personally would pay for or don’t mind trying!

So how do you differentiate between an advertisement that the influencer feels nothing for VS an honest review?

By their captions :)

Alpha influencer, Jie Hui (@missgoob), enjoys all the McDonald’s and McCafe’s social media campaigns! She shares with us why in our latest Dayre post on our all-time favourite advertisements.

5.How important is it to stay authentic?

One question that has been popping up recently is the authenticity of the influencers. As they are becoming more commercialized, some of them might even lose themselves in the process of finding fame. Let’s hear it from our Alpha Tiq, Jamie and Samantha on their take of authenticity.

tiq authentic

Source: From our Alpha, Tiq!

As much as we deny it, an influencer is an Internet celebrity. And in this industry, to make sure you stand out, you have to be original. You can’t be doing every single thing others are doing. You have to keep evolving so brands can trust you enough to create unique content for them. You also need to stay true to yourself. Your personality is yours to keep, don’t change it.

Source: From our Alpha, Jamie!

Hmm… I think being and staying authentic has its importance, influencer marketing aside. Sometimes we forget that while we can reach many people on social media, we connect with people in real life too. Being authentic in appearance is easier than being so in mind. If we are only working on the former, the lack of the later easily reveals itself when we communicate with people on a daily basis and it erodes away the trust people have in you. Truth be told, influencing people is a wonderful thing but I guess we must not forget that it should not be an empty expression. People do use/buy products according to recommendations of influencers. To me, it’s sort of a relationship between the influencer and his/her followers and it’s an important one whereby influencer marketing is founded upon.

Source: From our Alpha, Samantha!

Everyone is unique in their special way and that’s what attracts people to you. Always stay authentic because nobody wants to see something that has been done before.

6.Alphas’ thoughts on influencer marketing

Want to know what our Alphas feel about influencer marketing? You know your side of the story so what do the people who have been engaged for social media campaigns think about it?

I’ve seen a lot of backlash on influencer marketing recently. Sometimes you can’t blame these viewers because I’ve seen so many influencers taking up jobs that are wrong or doesn’t suit them at all. But this is the new technique of marketing and you can’t deny that it’s useful because it works. No matter how some people hate it, it’s here to stay. And it will keep changing so people need to keep up.

I think it’s great that it helps companies and brands to achieve a more personal touch to getting product and service information to its customers. From a consumer point of view it’s definitely more relatable to see an influencer using and recommending a product, than watching a demonstration through a superstar advertisement. I guess influencer marketing fills the gap between consumers and advertisements. If the right people are engaged, it brings us closer to the ideal of honest marketing too

Can you imagine catching all of the Pokémons from the comfort of your home? That’s what influencer marketing is about. We show you what we love while you do your favourite activity – browsing through social media on the go and at home.

We hope we managed to drop you some insights into influencer marketing. That’s all the time we have as we’re busy getting ready for Netccentric’s 10th Anniversary party later on! Join us on Netccentric’s social media page where they’ll be streaming live from the event.

See ya there! 😉

Feature Friday: Ong Ai Leng – living it up stylishly everyday!

Category: Alpha, Feature Friday | No comments

What’s up, Churpers! How’s everyone doing on a Friday? For us, it’s our most favourite day of the week for obvious reasons hehe we can’t wait to relax a little more over the weekends. No stranger to the entertainment industry, today we’ll be featuring Artiste and Entrepreneur, Ong Ai Leng, who’s currently living the life in Canada.

Let’s get right to it!

1. Hi Ai Leng, hope all’s good. How has life been in Canada? What are some things you miss most about home (Singapore & Malaysia) after living abroad for a while?IMG_8269

It’s summer in Canada now! I stay in Toronto, definitely not very difficult to adapt.  I would say summer here is beautiful and lively; extremely blue cloudless skies and green grass. Hate to say this, but the moon here appears bigger than back home LOL. (It’s a Chinese saying by the way!)

My life in Canada

What do I miss most about Singapore? Definitely the food, though I managed to cook my own curry laksa and chicken rice in Canada.

I cook everyday in Canada, here’re some of my creations!

One more thing that I miss most about Singapore is the convenience of commuting from one place to another, and that I could do everything at one area. For example, Orchard Road! From hair treatments to facial, mani-pedicures to high tea with friends, watching movies to shopping and to attending my Pilates class! But in Canada, it’s just too big, there’re long drives in between two points.

2. Any upcoming business or acting projects that you’re excited to share about?

After Project W (a Singapore production), I’m giving myself a break (without a deadline). My friends said I have retired haha. Maybe I am just temporarily retired until there is another good script or interesting business opportunity but I am still running my event company in Singapore. As long as I have my phone, I can work anywhere.

3. You’re blessed with really good skin and as a celebrity, we know it’s important to look good! Care to share with us some beauty tips? 😀

Let me try to list down all my daily regimes:

  • I will never wear make up to sleep, regardless of how late I arrive home or how tired I am. I shower, wash my hair and clean my face – 100% clean before I head to bed so there’re no bacteria or germs or dust on my pillow and bed!
  • Every morning, I wash my face with water only, no need for the use of cleanser as my face would be very clean the night before after all my skin care steps (toner, any kind of serum, moisturiser, eyecare). Sometimes if I am really very tired, I’ll skip the skincare steps and simply apply a sleeping mask and wash it off with water the next morning before applying some skincare. This can help acne combination skin too.
  • Always apply sunblock. Never leave home without it
  • I don’t go for facial often, maybe once in 2-3 months but I put on facial masks at home at least twice a week. If I am filming, I will put on a mask everyday.
  • Drink lots of water of course, though plenty of exercising does make a positive difference to my skin as well. I run everyday now, and my skin is firmer and better.

4. We also love your style! It seems like you can pull off anything! How did your love for fashion come about and what’s your style inspiration?

I don’t know what’s my style. Lol. That’s why I named and created a hashtag for myself #oalstyle. Cos my style is like my life, constantly changing, adventurous and eager to try new things. I was not like this in my twenties. Guess back then I dressed to impress and now I dress to have fun!

I travel a lot and I love to observe how people style themselves. With the help of magazines and Instagram, they gave me so many ideas! I used to buy full sets of designer wear, but that will only increase your chance of wearing the same as others. So now, I loooovveeee mixing and matching. Break the look, personalize the look, make it my own style. For example, I remember there was a year at Star Awards, I got a long tail black and white elegant evening gown, I broke the look with a biker leather jacket and my chrome hearts bracelets and rings.

During my first trip to London 9 years ago, London Fashion Week was going on and I was so inspired. On the streets, there are so many stylish people. Some might have looked a bit overwhelming, but! I came to a conclusion that any style or anything you put on, as long as you are confident and comfortable, that will be your own fashion style. And I appreciate that. Cos to me it has become an art.

5. What are some of your more memorable shows you were part of?

The first thing that came to my mind would be the first movie that I starred in my life. The movie was 2046, acted alongside Zhang Ziyi and Tony Leung. It was a very small role but I had such a great experience. And I love the costume and styling, I was wearing a 1940s cheongsam.

“Addicted to Love” – the Malaysia and Singapore drama filmed 8 years ago, it was like “Sex and the City” and I was the Carrie Bradshaw. I wore my own clothes, shoes and bags on set and the director of the show is now my husband :p

Lastly, Project W, cos it’s the most recent one and I really had lots of fun with the rest of the casts. We are the W family; Pierre Png, Sheila Sim, Desmond Ng, Charles Lee, Michelle Wong and Priscilla Chan. My character, Ashley, was very stylish too. Yup, that’s how much I love fashion!

6. After a long day of filming, what do you look forward to the most? What keeps your passion alive?

After a long day of filming, I only look forward to my bed and bathtub. I love pampering myself. And what keeps my passion alive is people, people that I enjoy working with, be it in entertainment or business. I love to meet people and being able to influence each other, support each other with positive energy and love. Without this, work will just be work… boring. I need to have love and have fun.

7. Congrats for being happily married for years! What are some tips for staying together despite both of you having busy schedules?

  • Don’t forget to say “sorry” and “thank you”
  • Don’t take marriage for granted
  • Keep having fun with each other. Don’t take everything too seriously except for one thing, the vow – the commitment in your marriage. For the rest of your time together, just enjoy each other’s company.IMG_3307

8. Share with us one of your biggest ups and downs in your life and your greatest takeaway so far.

Wow, my whole life of 37 years has been filled with ups and downs. I can’t tell you which one is my biggest but I had many precious experiences, which I thank God for, even for all my down moments too. That’s how my life became so interesting. I was the best academic student in college, graduated from an Australian University, for some reason I joined Miss Malaysia World, became a model, then actress, and then businesswoman. To conclude, my biggest down moment would be during my insecure days when I was between the ages of 25 and 28, chasing after security which I could never find because it was not in my work as an actress (haha definitely no), it was not in my looks, it was not in my relationship (by the way, never try to find your sense of security from a man), and it was not in my bank account too!

Then I found God, I went for a mission trip. It was the biggest turning point of my life. Instead of exhausting myself by creating the “security” in life which didn’t exist, I learned to embrace life. Life that is constantly changing, unpredictable and full of the unknowns. Flowed with it and gave my best everyday, making each day count.

9. Growing up, what were you like as a kid?

Spoilt princess? Lol. I was the first child in the family and always had what I wanted. Good in studies, sports, singing, dancing, drawing…etc. Super kiasu by nature, my parents never needed to pressure me in anything. As you can tell, I didn’t have many friends when I was a kid.

10. You’re constantly travelling and exploring places, are there anything else on your bucket list?

There are too many things I wanna do. The world is so big and I wish I can travel around the world!!! Some of the more notable places would be Israel, Jerusalem and Alaska (for the ice breaking cruise, watching the Norther Lights & Ice fishing!)

Wow Ai Leng, we wish we could be in Canada, you make us wanna live fearlessly too! We hope you guys are feeling a little inspired, when life isn’t looking too good, always believe in yourself! (:

That’s all the time we have today, go forth and enjoy the weekends!

Good day all, we hope the month of August has been good for you so far! Now that the National Day holiday’s gone and passed, we’re back to the daily grind. Well, we all need that little booster to get us by and keep us refreshed for the days ahead; some of us exercise while some choose to pamper themselves with a facial!

Here’s our Bloggerati, Zoe, working it!

At times, we prefer to DIY our own beauty remedy with gifts from good ol’ Mother Nature! Let us share with you some of our favourite tips which might come in handy! Stay tuned to the end to find out how you could possibly walk away with St Ives’ products as well 😉

Straight from the stem, rubbing aloe vera over your skin not only provides a cooling effect & relief for sunburns, it can also help refine pores too.

Honey contains antibacterial and antifungal properties that can serve as a treatment for acne. Dab a little over those pesky zits and let it work its magic! It also calms redness and irritation with its anti-inflammatory properties.

StIves1How Bloggerati, Sheila Mandy, stays in the pink of health!

When life gives you lemons, use them to lighten scars! Mix 1 part lemon juice with 3 parts water and dab onto skin. Leave it for a good 10 minutes before washing it off and you’ll probably see the results in a week!

Mash some avocados and apply them on your face for a moisture boost! You could even use the leftovers to make some guacamole dip! 😀

With all that said, what’s your favourite beauty remedy? We’d love to hear and you could even stand a chance to win St Ives products too. Here’s how!St Ives IG Contest Poster

Statement from Churp Churp

   Category: Uncategorized | No comments

Ms Ang Chiew Ting, commonly known as “Bong Qiu Qiu” entered into an agreement with Churp Churp in March 2013 where she agreed to have Churp Churp exclusively manage, negotiate and enter into all commercial, advertising and promotional transactions offered by third parties to her in relation to her social media accounts.

Since then, much resources and efforts were invested by us in her. In breach of this agreement, she had entered into more than 30 commercial, advertising and promotional agreements with others without having Churp Churp negotiate the said transactions and without Churp Churp’s knowledge nor approval. Despite many attempts to amicably resolve the matter, she continued to willfully ignore her contractual obligations. We are left with no choice but to commence legal proceedings against her.

Now that the matter is before a Court of law, we respect the legal process and will leave the matter to be settled in Court accordingly.

#FeatureFriday – Meet our most petite Alpha, Shufeng!

   Category: Uncategorized | No comments

Who’s excited for National Day? We know we are! We’ve covered so much on National Day Parade and all the happenings on Dayre that you could feel our excitement all the way across the screen.

Sharing our excitement for National Day is… Shufeng, our featured Alpha of the month! Going by the social media handle @PetiteKSF, no prizes for guessing that she’s really petite ;D She’s also one of our newest addition to the Churp Churp family so come along with us as we take you through Shufeng’s makeup inspirations, shopping tips and more!

1. Hi Shufeng, we hope July has been a good month for you! Do you have any July favourites?

Hello, same goes to all of you reading this :)

Talking about the month of July, I must say that it was a hectic one… But there is always room for July favourites!

Let’s start with makeup –  I’m extremely cautious when it comes to buying foundation as my skin is pretty sensitive to a lot of commercials brands. This time, Etude House did it again with their latest powder cushion which has won my heart over. I love how it transforms to powder within a few seconds the moment you apply it on your skin!

10/10 for this product because it really gives you a very natural finish. It’s my go-to product (holy-grail!) now and I really recommend this product to the ladies who are looking for a powdery and a more natural finish.

Skincare? Definitely The Wellness Clinic products right now. I’ve been applying all of these diligently every morning and night and am very confident to tell you guys that my skin has tremendously improved since then.

Moving onto retail brands – MDS is my favourite! Used to work with them for a few ads and now I’m happy to be a buying customer. The founder of MDS is also pretty petite so most of the clothes I get are mostly available in XS.  I’m sure I don’t have to explain much as MDS is almost everywhere!

So I guess that pretty much sums up my July favourites :)

2. Singapore Food Festival is currently ongoing! What are your favourite local dishes and where?

Hmm… when it comes to food, I’m very greedy. My favourite local dishes are Katong Laksa, Punggol Nasi Lemak and my all-time favourite… black carrot cake! They are the best, sooo cheap and yummy that you can just forget about all the cafe food out there.

3. With National Day just around the corner, tell us what you love about Singapore!

Speaking of National Day, I’m super excited to be celebrating with the Nation this 9th August! This year, I have the privilege to catch NDP preview on 30th July all thanks to Churp Churp  :)

This question came up often in class. Despite how expensive the country is, I still think it is a blessing to be living in this tiny red dot. Let’s take a moment to reflect on the peaceful sleep we get every day and getting home safely even when it’s 3AM in the morning.

Being born in Singapore has made me reflect on a lot of things – e.g. we don’t get natural disasters like tsunami or earthquake and security here is very tight (which we should not take for granted). Singapore Armed Forces are all very well-trained and without their contributions and hard work all these while, I doubt Singapore will be this safe.

I guess the best part about growing up in Singapore is the transportation.  The government has made it so convenient for all of us! Travelling around with just Red, Green and Purple Line back then and now? We even have the blue and orange line! Not forgetting buses as well. I remember getting a bit lost with my friends when we first started taking the orange line, lol. #itwasthecoolestadventureever

4. Do you have any source of inspiration for your everyday makeup?

If you want me to describe my everyday makeup, I would say it’s more towards the Japanese style. They are very focused on eye makeup and I have been into them since I was 18 (young and vain, very sure it’s genetic. Lol) YouTube was one of the sites I surfed very often. I started putting on makeup with just $2 Daiso products; those were the only makeup products I could afford with no part-time job back then haha.

I have to admit that SOME of the makeup products on the shelves ain’t that bad and the first foundation I started using was Silkygirl! My puberty came late, so no concealers needed at that point of time lol. #thisisarealjoke

As you can see, makeup trends are ever-changing, I look for inspirations through magazines and Youtube these days. Ponymakeup and Bubzbeauty are a couple of my favourite YouTubers whom you should totally follow!

5. Lip products have been all the rage these days, do you have any favourite lippie you swear by?

NYX lippie

YES. It’s NYX Ombre Lippie and Colourpop!

NYX Ombre Lippie – What I really love about these lippies is that there are two colours in one stick. One is a lighter shade while the other is a darker shade. You’re able to create very beautiful ombre lips and rock your weekend with just that one stick. The best part is, it comes in lots of colours for you to choose from. Pigmentation wise? 10/10. NYX has been one of my favourite cosmetic brands so far. Cheap and good!

Colourpop – I guess I don’t have to explain much about this highly raved lipstick! It’s everywhere, like literally everywhere. The colour, pigmentation etc is worth every penny! I still have lots of unopened ones and intend to do a giveaway someday.

6. Describe your dream holiday!

Dream holiday? I really need one so badly! Maldives is my dream holiday. Imagine waking up to such a beautiful scenery, disconnected from the internet world with just the lovely blue sea, you and chilling with the fishes – sounds ideal. Definitely putting this dream vacation on my bucket list!

p/s: A partner to complete this holiday would be even better, hahahaha. :p

7. As a shopaholic, any shopping tips for girls who are petite just like you?

I feel that it is important to be comfortable in our skin and wear whatever that is comfortable. To me, fashion has no rules. You are what you wear, be comfortable and let no one tell you how you should dress. It’s ok not to be perfect, it’s perfectly ok not to have a Victoria’s Secret model body too.

My wardrobe is in a huge mess, it’s insane and I don’t even want to think about it. My best shopping tips I can give for petite ladies are:

  • To look taller, nude heels are the way to go. I feel they definitely help to “lengthen” your legs, especially in photos. I own like 3 to 4 pairs of similar nude heels, never sick of them!
  • Try to avoid midi skirts, they will make you look shorter and tinier as a person, not many petite girls can pull that off.
  • Never get an oversized bag, it’s like a hell-no. BUT, it’s perfectly ok for you to get an oversized tee, they are very comfortable and common now. I’ve been digging that lately.
(Best tip: Get your boyfriend’s shirt, you can save some money. Lol)
  • Do try to avoid tea-length dress as it isn’t ideal for petite women. You might want to be a little bold and show some skin. Get a dress around or above your knee length. It will make you look taller. Just because we don’t have a supermodel body, that doesn’t mean you don’t have the rights to flaunt your petite body. Aye.
  •  Jumpsuits are my favourite! My main tip in picking jumpsuits? Prints. I always avoid jumpsuits that have too many prints. Block colours and simple colours are good as they’re very flattering on petite women.

Yep, I guess that’s all I can think of right now. You can always hit me up on my social media platform if you need any tips! I might pop out some new ones for you. Sharing is caring 😉

8. Your adorable Shih Tzu has been popping up on your social media platforms! Do you have any advice for potential dog owners?

Ah, that naughty little boy! I personally feel that having a pet dog at home requires a lot of attention but they can play a big part in relieving your stress after a long day at work too. If you’re getting a pet at home, always make sure you do your simple accounts. Having a pet can burn a hole in your pocket, so be ready for this.

Besides all the fun, there’s a lot to consider before having a pet dog at home. The medical expenses, approval license, monthly food expenses, grooming expenses, toys, training expenses and miscellaneous expenses that will cost a bomb in the end.

9. This might be random but what is your #1 song on your playlist?
Secret Love Song by Little Mix!

10. Lastly, what’s one thing people don’t usually know about you?

I had moles near my eye area when I was a kid. I finally got them lasered away when I was 18. It was so ugly and irritating! I guess my Secondary school friends can vouch for that, lol!! The fortune teller also pointed out that the moles near my eye area symbolized something bad but I can’t really remember what it is. Hence, I got it lasered for good. In fact, I feel much more confident when I head out now.  I used to lock myself up as I hated getting unnecessary stares and comments when I was out. I was so insecure when I was young! Thank god, it’s all over now.

Yes, Maldives is one of our dream holiday destinations too! Hope you enjoyed getting personal with Shufeng, do check out her blog and social media platforms for peeks into her life. Don’t forget to follow her on Dayre too :)

That’s all we got this week, have a Churp-y weekend all!

Let’s wrap up the second quarter of 2016!

We’re embarking on the second half of 2016 already and before we look forward to the future and step up our game to conquer whatever that comes our way, it’s equally important to take time to rewind and reflect on the good and the bad; learn from the mistakes made and give yourselves a pat on the back for the accomplishments! Let’s relive some of those moments we had through the past months:

  1. We got up close and personal with our friends on Dayre!

Just a month back, Dayre (@blog), in collaboration with General Assembly, held its first “Meet The Influencer” event where the audience were able to meet some of their favourite Dayre personalities. We headed down to support our sister company as well as the invited panel speakers, Gillian, Jie Hui, Bertilla, Shuying & Mong, where they discussed how Dayre impacted not only their lives but their readers as well. It was such an insightful session and the audience were really participative. Well done all!

  1. #NetccentricxNDP2016

We are once again proud to partner with the National Day Parade (NDP)’s committee this year where we get to receive first dibs on all things related to our nation’s birthday celebration! More than just the fun pack, there were so many interesting elements to this year’s NDP media event that we couldn’t help but share it on Dayre. As 9th August nears, stay tuned for more on our platforms!

Sales All Around Asia!

Category: Alpha, Singapore, Travel | No comments

Now that GSS is in full force, have you been shopping your heart out? If the sales in Singapore are not enticing enough, why not think of heading out of Singapore! Many of us travel and do lots of research on factors like the weather and country’s attractions but what about the sales season? As we’re on the topic of sales lately, we compiled a list of popular Asian countries that Singaporeans love to visit and noted down their sales season. So let’s get right to it!

Thailand, Bangkok (June to August)

Source: From our Alpha, Kai!

This city needs no introduction. Singaporeans’ favourite city to visit is none other than Bangkok! With lots of cheap street food and apparels, what’s not to love? Aside from places like Chatuchak Market where it’s shopping season all year round, their shopping malls run the Amazing Thailand Grand Sales during June to August which is very much like GSS back in our little red dot. Local boutiques also participate in the sales so it’s not just the same ol’ international brands but discounts apply to local designer goods too!

Hong Kong (December to February, July to August)

Source: From our Alpha, Brenda!

Ah… Hong Kong, cue the smell of dim sums. Aside from the delicious Hong Kong food, shopping is something you must not miss! Their sales season builds up to Chinese New Year which Hong Kongers take very seriously. The sales typically applies to departmental stores and shopping malls, less so of street markets (‘cause it’s already so cheap!). The summer sales tie in with Hong Kong Tourism Board Festival so be sure to grab the guidebook from the Tourism Board to get some coupons and snag vouchers from information desks at the malls too!

South Korea, Seoul (February)

Source: From our Alpha, Desiree!

With K-Beauty trending, we desperately want to get on the next plane to Seoul! Rich in culture, Seoul is a city that provides the best experience to tourists with their Korea Grand Sale. Not just for shopping, it´s a tourism festival that introduces quality Korean products, cultural experiences and includes a myriad of benefits such as discounts for attractions, accommodations and entertainment. The Koreans are really welcoming to foreigners!

Japan, Tokyo (July, December to January)

Source: From our Alpha, Jon Phay!

A rule of thumb for sales globally, there´s always clearance sales near the end of summer and winter seasons which I’m sure everyone already knows! Tokyo, with its variety of streets selling a diversity of clothing, there’s definitely something for everyone. What’s interesting is that during the New Year season, Japanese have a culture of selling “Fukubukuro” (also known as mystery bag or lucky bag) where the merchants make grab bags filled with random items and sell them at a much lower rate! If you’re looking to travel to Japan during the end-year period, remember to look out for the Fukubukuro.

China (11 November, Single’s Day)

Source: From our Alpha, Ong Ai Leng!

If you’re not travelling near the end of the year, fret not as you’re definitely not missing out on the Single’s Day online sales that’s widely popular in China! Founder of Alibaba, Jack Ma took this opportunity to create the biggest online sales on Tmall and Taobao. So fellow shoppers who’ve discovered the gem of Taobao, mark this date down on your calendar because everything is going to be cheaper than cheap.

Remember to keep the various sales season in mind when you’re planning your next trip out of Singapore! Do you have more shopping tips and tricks you’d love to share with us? Leave a comment below, we’d love to hear them. That’s all we have for now!

Till then, have an awesome mid-week and just keep shopping, Churpers :)
